Arab Group States Celebrate Calligraphy Inscription

Each year across the Arab world and beyond, Arabic Language Day (December 18th) is a reason to celebrate. Spoken daily by over 420 million individuals, that very same week in December 2021 offered Arabic speakers all the more reason to rejoice, with the inscription of the language’s calligraphy—alongside its knowledge, skills, and practices—on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The UNESCO Member States that jointly submitted the file alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Sudan, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
